Our Animal Sciences & Technologies (AST) team in Cambridge sits at the heart of this journey. Here, we design and deliver in vivo studies that generate the insights essential to advancing our medicines pipeline. Accountabilities:
As a Scientist within the AST Department, you’ll play an active role in the success of our research pipeline by ensuring exceptional standards of animal care and scientific rigour. Working in our modern vivarium, you’ll partner with disease area scientists, technical experts, and multidisciplinary project teams.
Your main responsibilities will include:
Delivering daily husbandry and welfare assessments for research animals.
Performing in vivo procedures such as dosing, biological sample collection, and tumour measurements.
Accurately recording and maintaining experimental data in both digital and written formats.
Managing your workload to meet project timelines while maintaining compliance with Good Laboratory Standards (GLS).
Upholding high standards of Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) and ensuring compliance with the Animal (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 and related EU directives.
Contributing to continuous improvement and sharing best practices across the AST community.
Essential Skills/Experience:
A Levels, HNC, HND (or equivalent) in a relevant life science discipline, or significant relevant experience.
Demonstrated in vivo technical experience in rodents.
Current or previous Home Office Personal Licence (Modules A–B / 1–2 / 1–3) or equivalent.
Knowledge of the Animal (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986, Directive 2010/63/EU, and Home Office guidance.
Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Fluent in written and spoken English.
Desirable Skills/Experience:
BSc or MSc in Biological Sciences or related field.
Experience as a trainer or assessor of in vivo skills under ASPA.
Previous experience as a Named Animal Care and Welfare Officer (NACWO) or similar role.
Familiarity with advanced technical procedures (e.g. imaging, surgery, or specialised dosing; PIL Module C).
